enhanced from UPC A barcode. EAN 13 encodes 12 numbers
along with a check digit and developed by International
Article Numbering Association (EAN) in Europe.
EAN 13 designates with other popular names including European Article
Number 13, EAN-13 Supplement 2/Two-digit Add-On EAN-13
Supplement 5/Five-digit Add-On, EAN-13+5, EAN13,
EAN13+5, EAN13+2, UPC-13, GTIN-13, GS1-13, EAN/UCC-13,
EAN-13+2 and others.

Structure of EAN 13 symbology

EAN 13 structure comprises of the following parts:

Number System
Number System is used to represent first two digits

Manufacturer Code
Numbering authority assigns Manufacturer code to each
manufacturer signified by the number system code. Same
manufacturer code is utilized by all item for

Product Code
Manufacturer assigns Product code which is
instantaneously followed by manufacturer code. The

Check Digit
